About
Therapeutic Stance
Dr. Shubeck invites collaboration and brings warmth to the therapeutic relationship. He embraces the view that people are inherently good, but that life events and trauma can cause us to become stuck in potentially harmful loops that impact ourselves and others. These loops represent a necessary method of coping with difficult experiences, while calling out for a deeper desire to change. Therapeutic guidance empowers us to find which doors to walk through that will disrupt maladaptive patterns and help the person relinquish distorted thoughts, learn from challenging emotions, and ultimately thrive.
Education
Dr. Shubeck completed his PhD in clinical psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Francisco, his BA in psychology at UCSB, and post-doctoral residency at Oakes Children’s Center as well as Mindful Child and Family Therapy in the San Francisco/Bay Area. Dr. Shubeck’s clinical practice has involved working with individual adults, parents and youth within community-based organizations, school based sites, and in group therapy practice. He has worked with a range of at-risk youth and adults who have complex trauma, behavioral issues, adjustment challenges, depression symptoms, and anxiety. Dr. Shubeck provides evidence-based interventions through an integrated approach with his foundation in psychodynamic theory, experience utilizing play therapy, and training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) as well as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
